Cutting Cars

We’ve been telling you about consumers’ seemingly insatiable appetite for SUV’s and crossovers, and how that’s making it tough to sell sedans.  Cars make up about one-third of vehicle sales in the U.S, but it looks like buyers who want sedans will have fewer options.  The Wall Street Journal is reporting Ford will stop selling the subcompact Fiesta in the U.S. within a year, and will discontinue their largest sedan the Taurus.  They cite people who were briefed on the plans.  The report also says whether to continue the midsize Ford Fusion is still being decided.  Ford is apparently not the only car company making these moves.  The Wall Street Journal also reports Chevrolet will stop producing the subcompact Sonic, while still determining the future of the large Impala.
