New car finance deals on models from Renault, Fiat and Suzuki, plus online brokers
Advertisement

It"s hard to believe it, but March is almost upon us. And on the first of that month, the first cars to wear an "18-plate" registration will start to appear on the streets.

It"s the first of the two annual plate changes and a prominent date on the calendar of anyone who sells cars for a living. New-car sales come first and foremost in the minds of manufacturers – although a main dealer will typically stock approved used cars as well, the majority recieve far bigger bonuses for selling new cars and have strict targets to meet.

This means it can be a real buyer"s market in the weeks leading up to a plate change. If a dealership is short of its target in the run-up to 1 March, it"s more likely to snatch any sales opportunity it gets, so deals can be all the more attractive.

Online brokers such as BuyaCar don"t want to be outdone, either, and you"ll find a broad choice of cars for less than £100 per month if you"re open to the idea of a pre-registered car.

The latter is well worth considering. Dealers often register cars as sold in order to meet targets, even if no buyer has been found. Many of these just sit around until sold and have only a handful of miles on the clock. You need to be flexible on colour and specification, but as these are technically "used" cars, there are big savings to be made. We"ve written a feature giving more advice on buying a pre-registered car.

Whether you choose to buy new or nearly-new, it"s important to be confident when discussing the deal with your salesperson. We"ve produced a a helpful guide to help you drive a bargain.

Meanwhile, here"s our guide to the best car deals we"ve found this week, including those from manufacturer websites and online brokers.

Best new car deals – latest deals updated 16/02/2018

Renault has introduced a package of deals, including 0% finance and a year"s free insurance when you buy a new Clio. You"ll still need to place a £4,388 initial deposit, but the monthly payment for a 73bhp Clio Play with a 1.2-litre petrol engine is only £129. After 37 months, an optional payment of £4,913 makes the car yours to keep. The free insurance offer is open to drivers over 21 years of age, and the deal runs until 31 March.

Personal Contract Hire can be a tempting and cost-effective way to drive a new car, especially when it"s a full-on sports model like the Fiat 124 Spider. After an initial payment of £1,990, you can drive this beautifully balanced 138bhp two-seater for only £199 a month for two years and up to 6,000 miles per annum.

Suzuki is holding a one-day-only #SuzukiSaturdays sales event this Saturday (17 February), with £500 off any car registered before the end of the month. This brings the price of the Suzuki Celerio SZ2 down to £7,495. There"s 0% finance available, too, with the Suzuki Swift SZ-T available for £147 a month after an initial £1,916 deposit. It can be yours to keep after 43 payments, including a final £4,905 instalment as long as you don"t expect to exceed 8,000 miles a year.

Deals from brokers

With such competitive offers from manufacturers and dealers, online brokers need to work hard to keep up. This week’s top broker deal shows that your business has never been more welcome.

BuyaCar deals

Depending on stock, pre-registered 2018 cars with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, entry-level SE spec and delivery mileage can be bought with as much of £3,490 off the list price, and better-equipped Sport Nav models are available at similarly keen prices.

Examples of the new Volkswagen Polo are now available as nearly-new cars with under 1,000 miles from BuyaCar. You"ll find examples of the popular 1.0 TSI 95 SE Polo with big discounts from the list price.

If you"d rather something a little smaller, you"ll find discounts of up to 25% on a nearly new SEAT Ibiza. This can mean savings of up to £3,000.

The Volvo V60 Estate might be an older design, but it"s still a very desirable car. BuyaCar"s 24-month lease deal will put you behind the wheel of a 187bhp petrol V60 SE lux for just £150 per month after an initial £2,500 rental. This is a very inexpensive way to run a practical and prestigious car, as long as you don"t expect to exceed 8,000 miles per year.
